Red House Quilting

Image
Here is a picture of Linda's shop window at Red House Quilting. I always spend a couple of minutes enjoying the shop window before I go in. And I'll have to visit again before christmas to see her 'Christmas window display'.

Out of the blue - Welsh Quilts

Image
I haven't posted anything for a while. But I have finished a couple of Welsh quilt tops. Inspired by the pictures of Welsh quilts from Jen Jones gallery I have completed two Welsh Quilt tops.

Never ending Welsh Quilt

I've been trying to get some hand quilting done on my never ending Welsh quilt. I am quilting the outer border so the end is in sight. Mind you I've been quilting it slowly for years so don't hold your breath. No picture today it's late, dark and I am very tired. In fact I'm in bed. So it's goodnight from me.

A Welsh quilt

Image
This is a very old traditional looking Welsh quilt. Obviously made from scraps. And I love love love it. Think I'm going to have to make my own version on this one.

Thursday thread

Image
Today I am posting pictures of a friends quilt. This is Jean's Golden Wedding quilt. Magnificant.

Festival of Quilts & ufo's

Image
This weeks Thursday thread hails from the beautiful bag kit by Siposne Cseh Margit that I bought at The Festival of Quilts in Birmingham earlier this month. I promised myself that I would finish a few of my ufo's before I started the bag. Here are pictures of some ufo's I have finished since then. And in fact there wasn't much to do on any of them to finished them off. It was more a case of needing a push to get started or finished. Not sure how 'tinternet managed to muddle up the order of the pics I have posted but..... Top to bottom: close up of paisley fabrics in the paisley quilt top I have just finished. Blue and white lap quilt for an injured soldier. The above mentioned bag kit http://foltvilag.prestabox.com/ Paisley top complete - this is a nod to the paisley often used in Welsh quilts. Another close up of the paisley blocks. And finally another ufo finished. A baby quilt for the berievement midwife at Singleton Hospital Swansea. Most of these projects

Thursday Thread

Image
I just realised I have missed two Thursday Threads. Not a very good start is it. So I have told myself off and issued a 'thought warning' to try harder. So what went on last week. Well we hand dyed pieces which we had stitched together last month. Using a plastic dropper to control where the dye went. Hopfully you can see the stitching we had put into the work on the close-up. We were inspired by C. June Barnes . I am going to try and create a link. But haven't worked out how to do it on my phone yet.

Markel sticks

Image
This weeks Thursday Thread shows us playing with markel sticks and encaistic (heated wax crayons) work yesterday with the talented Dian Smith.

Swansea quilters exhibition

Image
This week (1-4th August) Swansea Quilters have their exhibition in Mumbles. As a Swansea Quilter myself a few of my pieces are on display. So for this weeks Thursday Thread I am posting somr pics from the exhibition. Elvis is a miniature group quilt I made with three friends. It's A4 sized. The second pic is miniatures too. The gold/yellow coloured quilt is another A4 sized one of mine. It's freemotioned machine quilted with a Welsh quilt pattern. The one on the back wall is a slightly bigger quilt which was designed to celebrate the Queen's jubilee. The cushion I had hoped showed my Paula Doyle cushion - but just in case I've put a pic of my Paula Doyle cushion in.

The Wednesday Quilters

Image
Been quiet of late. But I'm going to commit to posting at least once a week to update my blog. So I have picked Thursday as my once a week posting day. I am going to call it The Thursday Thread. Yes I know it's Saturday today - so this can be A Saturday stitch. Anyway went to see the Wednesday Stitchers in Neath yesterday, well done girls on a wonderful first exhibition. Here  are a few pics of their work.

Blackberrys

Image
Almost finished my blackberrys now. Found the actual berries really fiddly. But luckily my friend Gaynor gave me some she had left over. Also she gave me the two white flowers. So more of a joint effort this one.

No Reply Blogger

Well, I had no idea I was a 'no reply blogger'  I didn't even know what that was. So thanks to Deb O'Hare for letting me know. Hopefully I am now a 'reply blogger' . Learning all the time....

The Passion of Port Talbot

Image
Here is a pic I took today in Aberavon Shopping centre, where Michael Sheen came to share memories with us re last years Passion in Port Talbot (there is also an exhibition on at the moment).  The picture shows the two 'quilt tops' made by local school children that our group helped put together for the passion. I am quite excited to be going to the premier of the film of it 'The Gospel of Us' tonight.

Pray Flags

Image
Ok, here are my set of P.F.'s what next, any suggestions? Oh, and expect her to hang them either in her garden or her greenhouse. The colours haven't come out too well. Looking from the left they are blue, white, red, green and yellow.

Prayer Flags

I am making a set of Prayer Flags for a friend (yes I have friends) and I am really stumped as to what to put on them. I have cut them out as bunting shapes thinking that would give them a British feel - and as we are celebrating so much in Britain this year it would be appropriate.  Now my friend loves her garden, so maybe flowers and or birds, she practices yoga and reiki. So where do I start?

Right way up

Image
Just hoping this pic is the right way up now. Yippy it's the right way up.

Almost finished

My Turkish Delight is almost finished now. The trick is knowing when to stop.
