Celebration

I managed to spend some time lately working on my own projects.
I'm making a series based on some of my favourite photographs.  I've always loved taking pictures and the digital age means I can snap to my hearts content.

I'm currently working on five pieces inspired by my photographs. This one was taken in Alykanas on the Greek Island of Zante.  Our favourite spot for a relaxing holiday.  On this visit we were (still) celebrating our 40th Wedding Anniversary.

So I've printed out part of the above picture in black and white quick print so I could cut out and use the part I wanted as a template to make the fabric figures.

I kept it simple and used one of my go to work horse fabrics, Osnaburg, to create a piece of Applique.

Which I then outline stitched onto a background fabric.

I added some nice wavy Machine Quilting 

Job Done!

I'm pleased with that. 

It keeps the 'Essence' of the original picture for me.

It's propped up against a larger piece of work called

William & Daisy

Yey - had a lovely play day today working on my own little project.
Inspired by a photo I took of my Grandson and dog last year.

It's lovely to take and have pictures. 

But sometimes I feel the need to commit a memory to fabric.

Using some fabric I had hand painted,  some freemotion quilting and appliqué - and a touch artistic licence (I changed the direction Daisy was running in). Some scraps of fabric for the binding. It's all finished and hanging proudly on my wall.

Again, I quick printed out this picture so I could use it to make templates.

Choosing fabrics to match the picture I Appliqued William & Daisy onto a fabric background.  Added some wadding, machine stitched wavy lines.

Added a colourful binding. 

An another Memoty Picture Finished.

This takes me right back to when William had his first walk on 'Our Beach' Aberavon Beach, Port Talbot.

Daisy stitches – Kickback Friday

Well my Quilty Friends, it's still hot, hot, hot in Wales.

So I was up, dressed and down the beach nice and early this morning before the day had a chance to heat up.

And it was glorious down there this morning.

I wanted to introduce Daisy to the beach.

At first she was afraid.

She was pretrified

And after ten minutes of trying, I had to pick her up and carry her onto the beach.

At first she stuck by me like glue.
But then she thought the wet sand was pretty cool to lay in.

What, me roll around in the wet sand.

No it wasn't me - I'm not sure I like the beach.

Stay with me this does involve stitching - eventually.

Now she's getting into it - ears all akimbo -

She looks a bit like a gremlin - maybe that's what happens to her for ten minutes every evening when she goes wild. Um.. must remember not to get her wet.

Ah yes, this is the life - just call me

Using camera timer now - quick Daisy, we have 10 seconds to strike a pose.
The eagle eyed among you may have noticed the railings in the sand. - yes the sand has completely covered the steps and most of the railings too!

After her first visit to the beach this morning Daisy has spent the rest of the day like this - with occasional re-positioning for comfort.

I think it's what you call 'Dog Tired'.

Well, here it is all finished, except for the edging - not sure what I'm going to do there.
Any suggestions?

I'm absolutely thrilled with it - I had a few wobbles along the way, wasn't sure it was going to turn out how I envisaged it.
But the finished piece is just how I wanted it to look. Yippy!
